Pennsylvania bans texting while driving

Last week, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett signed a bill into law prohibiting the act of texting while driving, officially making PA the 35th state in the U.S. to ban the act.

Now that S.B. 314 is signed into law, it is now a primary offense to text while driving. This means that police officers are now able to pull over drivers seen violating this law solely for that reason.

The law takes effect in March 2012. Violators are subject to a $50 fine but will not get points for infractions.

The fact that violations come with a fine but no points is good news for those worried that the new law could affect auto insurance rates in PA.

FHA Could Raise Mortgage Insurance Premiums to Avoid Government Bailout

An audit of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) revealed on Tuesday that there is a nearly 50 percent chance it will need a bailout next year if the housing market continues to deteriorate. However, the agency expressed it would increase homeowners mortgage insurance rates, before requesting a government bailout.

Deteriorating Housing Market Shrinks FHAs Cash Reserves

The FHAs independent auditor said in a report yesterday that the agency will likely require assistance from the Treasury Department if the housing market continues to suffer.

The FHA, which offers private lenders guarantees against homeowner default in the form of home mortgage insurance, has only $2.6 billion in cash reserves, down from $4.7 billion just last year. Its supplemental reserve is less than one-quarter of a percentage point of this current portfolio, suggesting that the agency has failed to keep a 2 percent cash buffer since 2008, as required by law.

Maintaining the required cash buffer has been difficult, because of the national foreclosure crisis. In th

1999 Buick Century Evaporative Emissions dilemma?

Okay, you had to beget my wifes car a alternative day, as she had mine. When you was all set to go house, you was traffic with a huge obstacle. you had to expostulate down about a 300 drive which hadnt been cleared, to get to a street. My alternatives were wait for a couple of of multiform hours for a plow to arrive, cruise to really transparent a drive with no shovelor usually go for it.

I took off comparatively aggressively down a driveway. Snow was low enough which it was rolling in a call up by a hood, windshield, roofand descending off during a back of a vehicle. When you in a future perceived to a road, you was pulling a Massive raise of sleet in to a highway.

Dragon’s Den sauce maker Levi Roots sued by friend over recipe

The entrepreneur Levi Roots, who owes his success to an appearance on the BBC programme Dragon’s Den, is reportedly being sued by a former friend over the recipe for his best-selling product, Reggae Reggae sauce.

Roots, whose real name is Keith Valentine Graham, became a millionaire after persuading business moguls Richard Farleigh and Peter Jones to invest in his jerk chicken sauce on the hit BBC show. Car Insurance Companies Help Generate Billions of Dollars

The insurance industry in Ontario, Canada adds $4.1 billion to the GDP in that area.  Between car insurance companies, homeowners, and business insurance; the economic and social growth in the province is substantial.  A report said that property and casualty insurance added an additional $3.4 billion in an indirect way, making the total contribution more like $7.5 billion.  This information comes from the CNW Group press release Insurance Industry is a Leading Economic Driver in Ontario: Conference Board.  The Conference Board of Canada performed a study to collect this data, which has been released by Canadas Insurance Board.

One of the largest contributors to this money is the jobs created both directly and indirectly in the Canadian province.  With 22,000 people directly employed and another 41,000 indirectly employed, insurance companies like State Farm car insurance help boost the economy.  In Ontarios private sector, more that 2 per 100 people work for the insurance industry through corporate headquarters and small offices.  In addition to the $7.5 billion of contributions, the insurance industry in Ontario provides $3.7 billion in taxes and levies to the province.

Ten percent growth is expected by most of the companies within the next three years.  The majority of Canadian insurance companies have headquarters in Ontario.  With more than 6,000 insurance businesses, this industry employs over 77,000 people.  Ontario also has the highest wages of all Canadian provinces, a full 32% higher than the average.  This study is the first of its kind regarding insurance businesses, but strongly highlights the important impact created by car insurance companies, other property and casualty insurers, and the insurance industry in general in Ontario.
